A legendary dragon hunter in life, Bellamin was the head of a temple dedicated to hunting and slaying all the dragons of the world. In his mind, there was no such thing as a good dragon: all of them needed to go. He fancied himself a spiritual successor to Vicnal the Red, a Sorcerer from two centuries ago who had hunted down and destroyed what was then the world’s most powerful red dragon. However, in Vicnal’s case, the quest was personal, as the dragon he slew was his own ancestor. Bellamin never gave a reason for his own hatred of dragons, but he probably had one.
Near the end of his life, Bellamin attempted to cheat death and become immortal by becoming a lich. However, the process failed, and he became a lich shade instead. Though he retained most of his mind, the conversion ruined his sanity and left him a rotting shell of his former self. The other members of the Temple of Vicnal chose to seal him deep in the basement of the temple, occasionally paying homage to their once great leader, and hoped to someday find a way to restore him either to life or to full lichdom.
The temple’s plans were dashed when the party sneaked into the temple basement, destroyed his physical body, and gave his phylactery to Apophis, a black dragon whose wife had been killed by Bellamin many years earlier. Bellamin currently spends most of his time in Mammon’s plane of Hell, though each day somewhere between ten and one hundred percent of his body reappears in the mortal plane and is dissolved in Apophis’s acid. This has not improved his mental state in the least.
